Big Basin Redwoods State Park (beautiful old-growth redwoods)
Wilder Ranch State Park (walk to the beach or tread into the mountains)
Pogonip State Park (a brisk walk close to downtown with good views of the city)

Beaches:
Seabright Beach (quieter family beach adjacent to tourist beaches / has fire pits)
Twin Lakes Beach (quieter family beach with fire pits)
Davenport Landing Beach (15 minutes north of Santa Cruz / beautiful but it can be windy):
Pleasure Point Beach (a popular surf spot)
All beaches in Santa Cruz (it's hard to go wrong in SC)
